Fighting Games

January 14, 2011 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Fighting games are 1 of the oldest forms of video competition, dating back to 1976 with Heavyweight Champ. The fighting games category sets 2 combatants in opposition to one other in a standardly compact battling place, with every contestant getting a “life bar” to signify their energy. Each gamer can select a “character” which have their own unique persona, design, and techniques with which to take the other opponents stamina down. The genre also usually includes “special moves”, which originated as hidden commands in 1987′s Street Fighter. The person of the fighting games could use concealed directions, such as pressing “down, back, punch” in a rhythmic pattern to perform a special move like a uppercut, or firing a fireball. Street Fighter II in 1991 standardized all these things, and refined them to the point of it still currently being a competed competitive fighting games today.

Right now fighting games, particularly 2-D versions(which are played the most, competitively), have taken on a new life. Many people participate in fighting games in events all over the world, integrating this kind of knowledge as blocking, counter attacking, mindgames, and putting together strings of attacks labeled as “combos”, often in a particular rhythmic fashion. These fighting games are played for acknowledgement, hobby, money, among other things.

Whether you’re recently interested in the medium, or an old vet, we have the methods for you. Check us out if you really like fighting games! Or believe you could in the foreseeable future :)
